FCAT Writing Cadence

Writers, fall out! (sings marching song)

I sure know what you’ve been told (writers echo)
Remember this when you get old
FCAT is time to impress
Fourth grade writers are the BEST!

Read that prompt that’s in your hand
Think and then begin your plan

When you’re writing narrative
Describe just where your setting is
Engage your reader from the start
Give your characters a heart
Add a little dialogue
Quotation marks will do the job.

Expository can be cool
Describe, explain and don’t be fooled
Engage your reader and Think 3
Transitions, details, similes
Don’t forget to add a wish
It’s a great way to finish.

You all know what you’ve been told
Remember this when you get old
FCAT is time to impress
Fourth grade writers are the BEST!

Sound off (one, two) Sound off (three, four)
Sound off --three, four—one, two—three, four!

Totally new do's for fourth graders

Laptop Time

All Beauclerc Elementary students have the privilege of using laptop computers. They use the computer to take state and county tests, to practice reading and math skills and to become an expert in technology. Students also have access to most of these websites at home or at the public library.

We Love Beginning New Books!

Fourth graders began a new class novel today. It is The Gold-Threaded Dress by Carolyn Marsden. Mrs. Jenkins is curious to see who figures out the genre of the book first and who learns from the author's message.
